"Askefast" is "ashstuck"

New situations. New words.

When I flew back from Frankfurt, I was sitting next
to a group of friends who had been walking in Northern
Italy. Last Sunday they were supposed to fly back from
Milano, but found themselves "askefast".

No planes left Milano that day because of ashes from
faraway Iceland. They also told me that the airport in
Munich was closed that same day.

So looking for a solution to get home, they boarded a train
from Milano to Frankfurt!

The group of friends said that for their next trip abroad
in Europe they would now consider using Interrail to avoid
being "askefast" once more.

"Askefast" - a useful word for the future?

Hello, I found your blog when looking for information on registering a car in Norway. I found your blog very charming and I like this particular entry since we have all been dealing with the "fallout" from the Icelandic volcano. "Askefast" is such a great Norwegian word. It doesn't sound as good in English - Ashstuck. My husband returned to Norway after 20 years away so I've forwarded your blog to him. I wonder why you chose to return after 40 years? And what is your "other country"? The US or the UK? You seem to travel a lot!
